— Overview

What this service actually involves.

We strip back to deck, fit OSB3 or marine-ply roofing board to a true plane, then build up: a primer coat, a layer of catalysed polyester resin, chopped-strand glass matting consolidated with a paddle roller, then a topcoat in slate-grey or charcoal. Trims are pre-formed GRP corner and drip profiles bonded in. The cured surface is a single seamless laminate — no joints, no laps, no failure points.

— Signs you need this

4 things we look for first.

1

Planning to walk on the roof regularly (terrace, balcony, AC access)

2

Complex shape with lots of detail (no seams to fail)

3

Existing felt repeatedly patched and still leaking

4

Want a hard, ding-resistant surface — not soft like EPDM

— Included in the price

A fixed price means a fixed scope.

No hidden extras. Materials, access, disposal and a written guarantee are all in the headline number.

20-year workmanship guarantee
  • Strip & dispose of existing covering
  • New OSB3 / marine ply roofing board deck
  • Pre-formed GRP corner & drip trims
  • Catalysed polyester resin base coat
  • 450g/m² chopped-strand glass matting
  • Pigmented topcoat (slate-grey, charcoal, light grey)
  • All upstands, outlets and abutments laminated in
  • 20-year workmanship guarantee

— How we work

Step by step, fully transparent.

01

Strip & re-deck

Old covering off, new OSB3/ply screwed down to a true plane. GRP needs a flat, solid substrate.

02

Trims & primer

Drip and corner trims bonded around the perimeter. Resin primer rolled over the entire deck.

03

Lay-up

Resin applied, glass matting laid into it, paddle-rolled to wet out fully and remove every air bubble. Cures in 30–60 min.

04

Topcoat & cure

Pigmented topcoat applied across the entire surface. Full cure overnight. Walkable next day.

— Materials & kit

What we specify.

The unglamorous detail that decides whether the work lasts five years or twenty-five. Trade-grade or manufacturer-spec only — never builders' merchant own-brand.

  • Cromar Pro 25 polyester roofing resin
  • 450g/m² chopped-strand glass matting
  • MEKP catalyst (hardener)
  • Pre-formed GRP A-trim & B-trim drip profiles
  • OSB3 18mm roofing board
  • Acetone for tool cleaning & prep

— Frequently asked

4 answers before you book.

GRP vs EPDM — which is better?

GRP is harder, walkable, takes paving, repairable with the same materials. EPDM is more flexible, faster to install, seamless single-sheet. For terraces and balconies, GRP wins. For pure weather-cover on a flat extension, EPDM wins on warranty and labour cost.

Will it crack in cold weather?

Properly catalysed GRP on a stable deck does not crack. Cracking comes from a flexing substrate (sagging joists) or under-catalysed resin. We use OSB3/ply screwed down at 200mm centres and lab-calibrated catalyst ratios.

Can we walk on it straight away?

Light foot traffic next day. Heavy traffic (paving, decking, AC install) after 7 days for full cure. We can install on a rolling basis around your trade calendar.

What colour options?

Standard: slate-grey (most common), charcoal, light grey. Specials: any RAL on a 2-week lead time. We do not recommend white — yellows over 3–5 years.
