— Overview
What this job actually involves.
EPDM rubber roofs are nearly indestructible but they do fail at seams and any point that's been walked on with the wrong footwear. We patch with matching EPDM membrane and uncured tape — the same materials used by Firestone and ClassicBond — for an invisible, vulcanised fix that lasts the rest of the roof's life.
— Signs you need this
Five things we look for first.
Visible puncture or tear in the EPDM surface
Blister at a seam edge or upstand
Stain on the ceiling under an EPDM flat roof
Foot traffic damage (gravel pressed into membrane)
Edge lift at a parapet or perimeter trim
— Included in the price
A fixed price means a fixed scope.
No hidden extras. Materials, access, disposal and a written guarantee are all in the headline number.
- Failed area cleaned with EPDM-specific solvent
- Surface primed with quick-cure primer
- Matching EPDM patch + uncured strip vulcanised
- All four edges rolled in with a hot lap roller
- Adjacent seams inspected for similar failure
- 5-year written patch warranty
— On the day
How we work, step by step.
Clean
Failed area cleaned with EPDM-specific solvent (the cheap acetone trick used by some trades just dries the rubber out).
Prime
Quick-cure EPDM primer brushed on and allowed to flash off until tacky — typically 5–8 minutes depending on temperature.
Patch
EPDM patch (cut 100mm bigger than the failure on all sides) rolled on from centre outwards. Uncured strip taped over the edge.
Cure
Hand-roller pressure over every square cm of the patch. Foot traffic ban for 24 hours to allow full vulcanisation.

— Frequently asked
3 answers before you book.
How long until I can walk on it?
24 hours for foot traffic, 48 hours for any equipment or aerial work. The vulcanised bond actually gets stronger for the first week.
Can you patch a 30-year-old EPDM?
Yes — EPDM stays patchable for its full 50-year life. The primer bonds to old rubber as well as new.
Should I just re-cover?
EPDM costs about £55/m² to fully re-cover. A single patch is £180. The maths only favours re-covering if you're seeing failures more than once a year.
