A gutter that doesn't drain properly is the second most common cause of damp on a London house (after chimney flashing). The fix is rarely a new gutter — it's almost always re-bracketing the existing run at the correct 1:600 fall and re-sealing the joints. We do this without removing tiles, working entirely from a roof ladder along the eaves.

How we work, step by step.
Lift & assess
Gutter unclipped and laid on the ladder. Each joint checked for crack or fatigue — if 3+ joints are damaged we'd quote a new run instead.
Re-bracket
New stainless brackets fitted at 600mm centres, set to a 1:600 fall using a laser level. That's a 5mm drop every 3 metres — small but critical.
Re-seal joints
Joints stripped of old sealant, butyl strip applied to the channel side and gutter re-snapped together. Butyl flexes; silicone cracks.
Water test
Bucket of water poured at the highest point — should run continuously to the downpipe with no pooling anywhere along the run.

Can you save my cast-iron gutter?
Almost always — cast-iron lasts 100+ years if the joints are properly sealed. We re-bracket and re-seal rather than replace, which keeps the period look.
Why butyl not silicone on joints?
Silicone bonds to one surface and tears off the other when the gutter expands in summer. Butyl strip stretches and stays sealed for 20 years.
Do you do half-round to UPVC matching?
Yes — for mixed runs (cast-iron front, UPVC back) we can fit a hybrid system that drains correctly through one downpipe.
