— Overview
What this job actually involves.
Almost every roof we survey has a Sky dish bolted straight through a tile with the bolt holes silicone-bodged. That seal lasts two years and then leaks slowly into the loft for the next decade. We either re-fix the bracket properly with a lead soaker upstand, or — more often — remove the dish entirely and properly close the penetration.
— Signs you need this
Five things we look for first.
Damp patch on the loft side of the slope under an old dish
Visible black silicone around an aerial bracket
Disused Sky dish you've never used since you moved in
Bracket bolts visibly rusted and lifting tiles
Cable trailing across the roof from an old aerial
— Included in the price
A fixed price means a fixed scope.
No hidden extras. Materials, access, disposal and a written guarantee are all in the headline number.
- Old bracket and any disused cabling removed
- Penetration sealed with a code-3 lead soaker
- Adjacent tiles re-bedded around the closure
- Or, if you want to keep the dish: bracket re-mounted to a gable wall
- Cable re-routed under the eaves out of sight
- All scrap dish / aerial taken away
— On the day
How we work, step by step.
Decide: keep or remove
We confirm with you whether the dish is actually used. 80% of the time it isn't — and removing it is the proper fix.
Lift & strip
Bracket unbolted, tile lifted to expose batten and underlay. Old bolt holes cleaned and sealed from underneath with a felt patch.
Lead soaker
Code-3 lead soaker dressed over the batten and under the tile course above — the standard way to close any roof penetration.
Re-bed tiles
Adjacent tiles re-bedded in line with the original gauge. Cable holes through the soffit sealed with butyl.
— Materials & kit
What we bring to the van.
The unglamorous detail that decides whether a fix lasts five years or twenty-five. We use trade-grade or manufacturer-spec materials only — never builders' merchant own-brand.
- Code-3 lead soaker
- Replacement matched tile if cracked
- Butyl mastic for soffit penetrations
- Skip disposal of old dish/aerial

— Frequently asked
3 answers before you book.
Can you re-fit my dish on the chimney instead?
Yes — we can wall-mount to the chimney stack with stainless straps (no bolts through the brick) or to the gable wall. Either avoids any roof penetration.
Will Sky come out to re-align afterwards?
You can either book Sky after we've moved the dish, or we can align it ourselves with a satellite finder — we charge an extra £40 for alignment.
Should I keep a disused aerial 'just in case'?
No — every metal bracket on a roof is a wind sail and a leak path. If you watch TV through streaming, take the lot off.
