— Overview
What this job actually involves.
Pigeons and squirrels enter the loft through the eaves gap and the open chimney pot. They cause more roof damage in five years than weather does in twenty — lifted insulation, chewed cabling and ammonia damage to the timber. We close the three entry points: eaves combs along the front, ridge baffles at the apex and a cage cap on every disused pot.
— Signs you need this
Five things we look for first.
Scratching or fluttering noises from the loft
Pigeon droppings around the eaves
Squirrel sightings on the roofline at dusk
Nest material poking out from under tile course
Open chimney pot with no cap or cowl
— Included in the price
A fixed price means a fixed scope.
No hidden extras. Materials, access, disposal and a written guarantee are all in the headline number.
- Plastic eaves comb along the entire front and rear eaves
- Ridge baffles fitted at every ridge tile junction
- Stainless wire cage cap on each disused pot
- Existing entry points sealed with stainless mesh
- Loft inspection before and after
- 10-year material guarantee
— On the day
How we work, step by step.
Loft survey
We start inside — look for daylight at the eaves, nest material, droppings. Identifies the active entry points before we work outside.
Eaves comb
Plastic comb strip clipped into the bottom course of tiles along the eaves. Blocks the 25mm gap that birds use as a doorway.
Ridge baffle
Small plastic baffle inserted under each ridge tile junction. Closes the gap that squirrels exploit to drop into the loft.
Pot cage
Stainless wire cage cap fitted to any disused chimney pot. Lets the flue breathe but stops anything bigger than a sparrow getting in.
— Materials & kit
What we bring to the van.
The unglamorous detail that decides whether a fix lasts five years or twenty-five. We use trade-grade or manufacturer-spec materials only — never builders' merchant own-brand.
- Plastic eaves comb (Klober)
- Ridge tile baffles
- Stainless wire pot cage
- Stainless mesh for one-off closures

— Frequently asked
3 answers before you book.
Will it stop bats?
Bats are protected — we don't proof against them. If you have bats in the loft you need a bat survey before any roofing work, and we'll arrange that.
What about magpies on the chimney?
Pot cage handles them. We don't do anti-bird spikes on a residential roof — they look industrial and only shift the problem to a neighbour.
How long does proofing last?
Plastic combs 10 years, stainless mesh 25+ years. We use stainless for any visible component because galvanised rusts and streaks the rendering.
