What this service actually involves.
We strip the existing covering, inspect the rafters and decking, fit a high-performance breathable underlay (Klober Permo Air or Tyvek Supro), counter-batten for cross-ventilation, then re-lay with new battens at the correct gauge for the slate/tile chosen. Every perimeter slate is double-nailed, ridges are dry-fixed to current code, and lead flashings are dressed in Code 4 or Code 5. The headline price is fixed in writing after the survey — no day-rate creep, no 'while we're up there' surprises.

Welsh slate vs Spanish — which do you recommend?
Welsh Penrhyn is the gold standard, 100+ year life, but commands a premium. Spanish Cupa H12 is the best-value natural slate: tested to T1/S1/W1, BBA-approved, and a fraction of the cost. For most London terraces we recommend Cupa H12. For conservation areas or listed buildings we specify Welsh.
Do we need to move out?
No. The roof is watertight every evening — we never leave an open roof overnight. Scaffolding and skip live in the front garden or on a council-licensed bay. The work is noisy but the inside of the house is undisturbed.
How long does the guarantee last?
20 years on workmanship from EG Roofing, plus the manufacturer's warranty on the covering (typically 30–60 years on Spanish slate, lifetime on Welsh).
Will my house insurance be cheaper?
Most insurers reduce premiums or remove storm exclusions once a roof is under 10 years old with a written guarantee. We provide a certificate suitable for underwriters.
Can you match the existing slate so it doesn't look new?
Yes — for partial re-roofs we source reclaimed Welsh or weathered Spanish to match. For full re-roofs we weather-match the colour run and ridge profile to the existing chimney stack.
