What this job actually involves.
Cement fibre slates (Eternit, Cembrit, Marley Birkdale) were nailed once and rely on a copper rivet at the tail to stop wind uplift. After 25–30 years the rivets corrode and slates flap loose in a gale. We re-rivet the loose courses with fresh copper rivets and add tingles to anything that's also lost a nail head.

How we work, step by step.
Hand-lift survey
Each course hand-lifted from the eaves up. Loose slates marked with chalk; tight ones left undisturbed.
Drill & rivet
1.5mm hole drilled at the tail of each loose slate and a copper rivet hammered through and folded over the head of the slate below.
Tingle if needed
If the head nail has also failed, a copper tingle is added — same fix as a natural slate replacement.
Check ridge
Ridge is checked last — when a fibre slate slope has been moving, the ridge mortar usually needs touching up too. Quoted separately if so.

How long do fibre slates last?
Standard life is 50–60 years but the copper fixings need refreshing once around year 30. After that you're good for another 20.
Are they asbestos?
Anything fitted before 2000 may contain asbestos cement. We do an HSE-spec test on site before disturbance and quote separately if removal is needed.
Should I just replace the whole roof?
Not necessarily — a slope that's just losing rivets has 20 years left in it. A slope that's also delaminating across the surface is a different conversation.
