GRP (fibreglass) flat roofs are tough — but the edge trims crack in year 10-15 from thermal movement. The standard fix is a full re-cover; the better fix is to cut out the failed trim, scarf-joint a new piece in and over-laminate with matching resin and chopped strand mat. Two hours and the roof has another 15 years.

How we work, step by step.
Cut out
Failed trim section cut out with a multi-tool — scarf joint at each end (45° angle) so the new laminate bonds across a wider face.
Prep substrate
Exposed substrate sanded with 40-grit and brushed clean. Acetone wipe before resin goes down — kills surface contamination.
Re-laminate
Polyester resin brushed on, chopped strand mat laid in and rolled out with a paddle roller to remove air. Second layer 30 mins later.
Topcoat & match
Topcoat colour matched to existing — usually slate grey or terracotta. Applied 4 hours after lamination once tacky-cured.

Will the repair show?
Slightly — the topcoat will match colour but the texture is fractionally different for the first 6 months while it weathers in. After a year you can't tell.
Can you patch the main field too?
Yes — same technique. Field patches are quoted at £180 baseline for up to 0.5m².
When does a full re-cover make sense?
If the trim has cracked in 3+ places it's the substrate moving, not the GRP. At that point a full re-cover (with proper expansion detailing) is the right call.
